| Clay Answered some more questions. I don't think he was clear enough about the cell phones. *g* Really wish they had more than less than a month for promotion. Makes me a bit nervous that he seems to be relying so much on the online fans to sell this out. |

Clay is answering questions again....and he said the answers for his Special can travel.

I mentioned SECTIONS A though E.. not rows.. sections.
Those sections are close to the stage and will at times be on camera. THose sections are close enough to not need binoculars, and having folks hold binoculars at such a close range while on camera looks a bit odd. I don't want anyone to be able to perpetuate inaccurate stereotypes because they see folks holding binoculars on camera.
If we tour, you can bring binoculars, signs, cameras (as long as you ''black tape'' the flash), and whatever... but for this TV special... nah!
2. Do you know if there will be a large screen on the stage? You know, the ones that telecast the concert? That may put an end to the binocular discussion (maybe). To my knowledge there will be no video screens. I'm not 100% apprised of all of the things that the TV folks will be using. This show sort of has two separate aspects... the live show and the TV part. I know all about the live part and am in control of how that looks, but there are other folks who are in charge of the TV parts. Simon and Mary are sort of overseeing it all... but I don't have all of that information for you now. I wouldn't count on video screens this time.
Let's sell this show out and make it a big enough hit for PBS, then sell enough albums that we can have a huge budget if we get to do another one. Look at how big budgetted Bocelli's PBS specials are!!! ;-)
3. Clay, do you mind if the questions and your answers are posted on other Clay boards as a lot of the OFC members frequent other boards on a more regular basis?
Yeah.. for these purposes, it's fine. Thanks for asking.
4. Do you want us to allow "red reports" to be posted on the OFC after the taping or are we to keep everything off the board?AFTER the show is over on Friday night, I welcome discussion about it. But I do hope that no one .. on ANY board ... will encourage folks to break the no cell phone rule by posting red reports during the show. Let's wait til after the show has ended and folks have left. Cool?
5. The assumption from your comments is that no cell phones are to be turned on or used in the venue at all during the taping, be it intermission or whatever. Can you please confirm this so as there will be no possible misunderstanding?
No CELL PHONES!
Aucuns téléphones portables
Ningunos teléfonos móviles
Nenhuns telefones móveis
Keine Handys
Geen mobiele telefoons
Отсутствие мобильных телефонов

Really folks? ;-)
6. As this is a special event and not a tour, will there be any merchandise for sale other than possibly a program?
Damn.. a program!?!?
That would have been a good idea.
No.. No mechandise.
7. Are you aware that the Progress Center has your "On My Way Here" album as the picture on the site for your appearance?
Yeah... we're working on it
8. A member has asked a question that may apply to more than one person so I'm going to put it in here.
She purchased her solo ticket in good faith in the hopes that she will have recovered enough from a leg problem to be able to attend. If her health does not permit her to go, she would like to know if she can gift it to a friend of hers.
Uh.... I can't get into the habit of answering individual questions. But.. for now.. I would recommend asking TicketMonster ;-) |

I don't think he's too worried about the taping selling out. I think what concerns him is how the audience for the TV special reacts and how many pledges they garner for this. That, coupled with sales of a CD because of it, is what will help determine if he gets to do another one.
I wonder how a tour factors into this? I'm not sure his touring can depend upon the reaction to the PBS special because if he plans to tour this summer, those venues need to be booked now. Maybe he plans on touring later in the year?
Loved his answer #5! *g* |

Okay, that's funny.
Well since we won't even be able to give you intermission reports, I think the CH is going to have to come up with some games to keep things interesting for the two hours of radio silence during the show.
I say you should hold a fake cellcert and just post the most outlandish things you can come up with.

OK, someone ask him about the blinky lights. Until we see a "no", I'm thinking they're a go. |

Well, this special will be very instrumental in promoting the CD, obviously, and if you also have tour tickets to offer, that tends to help tremendously in generating pledges (which in turn, of course, makes it an extremely attractive proposition for the stations when they are determining their schedules). So it all kind of works together.
It seems to me that he would have to have a tour already in place in order to pledge tickets to it, so if he does, maybe that will be a leap of faith (or perhaps they'd set up a few limited dates just to fulfill that until they see how CD sales go). |

It makes sense to me that his management team is overseeing things as they are coordinating with the label, PBS, International Media and the venue. You need one person as the project manager. I bet Mary is the PM and Renshaw deals with things that need escalating.
I'm kind of glad he said "if we tour" again in his answer. He really didn't need to mention a tour again, ya know? |

the bolded part is encouraging! the other part...eh, remains to be seen. i still hope they record it like a live concert, without all the stops and starts and shit. |

I know it's been mentioned before but I soooooo hope there is a good dose of Banter during the concert. The NJU would get to actually see why we go to more than one concert per tour. It's time for Clay's comedic skills and off-the-cuff humor to be seen and heard by others. He is just so.damn.funny.
I wonder if he'll hold back because it is a live taping. Would that cause him to lose spontaneity? Anyone? |

| I am not expecting a bunch of banter. I think this is more of an opportunity to sell Clay Aiken the singer to a larger audience. |

Unfortunately I think this is going to be the case.
I think the behind the scenes stuff will be priceless. I've been to many TV show tapings and the off camera stuff is always so entertaining. I've got my ticket and am so looking forward to this. Hope it tapes into the wee hours of the morning. |

My expectation is more along the lines of, lots of footage and editing, like the Christmas Skating show. I'm expecting stops and starts, longer show than makes it to TV and even some things added that we don't see.
I think this will be scripted, not much left to chance. As ncgurrl said, selling Clay Aiken the singer to the NJU.
If we get the personality, it will be a welcomed surprise. |

Except you'd think that, after seven years, he'd be more realistic about fan attire, wouldn't you! No Clay paraphernalia? How will anyone be able to tell the truly dedicated from the more casual fans. C'mon, TV Nephew. You know we can adapt to classy fan-wear when needed. Princesses wear sparkly tiaras to special fancy events. Why can't fans go with the Clay-equivalent?
A lovely red velvet accessory would not be out of place!
And we always glow in your presence so why not start off the night ready to do so? Huh?
You will be all dressed up, so let loose a little and allow the fans to try to match your splendor, eh! |
No, you aren't accidentally back on page 75, but this ^^^was so worth a repost. *g* |
